Calling all brides! We are having a giant sample sale taking place starting this week! We're getting super excited for the new dresses coming our way at market and we are just filled to the brim with inventory. We're looking for about 15 of our sample dresses to find new homes with you all!

They are in great condition and have just been discontinued by the designers. We are sad to see them go because many are favorites... but we are happy that we get to share the wealth! The dresses are going to go quickly and there aren't many to begin with!

For those of you unsure as to what a sample sale is.... basically we are selling our actual inventory. The dresses are as is but they are at a very discounted rate (most more than 50% off!). Or "Hey Y'all" as we like to say in the South=) Anne Barge is from South Georgia, just like myself. Fairytale Under the Banyans

When Rey Futch first told me about her wedding, I knew it was going to be something special. Of course, I agree, all weddings are special, but this one struck me as especially heartfelt and unique. And she planned it all in less than 4 months!
Rey and Christian were married on October 22nd. The ceremony was held on Banyan Street in Boca Grande. This was definitely a first for me. I had never had the opportunity to help a bride find a dress for a wedding that was going to be held literally on the street. Banyan Street is a major landmark in Boca Grande, but to be married there was quite an interesting choice, but as Rey further explained to me that her parents had done this very same thing 37 years before, I was immediately caught up in the romance and sentimentality.

The challenge was finding the perfect dress! Rey came in during an Ivy and Aster Trunk Show one weekend, which was quite fortuitous and rather fateful. She was looking for something simple and elegant that wouldn't upstage the casual Old Florida feel of the wedding. (After the ceremony under the Banyan trees, they would board local fishing boats to the reception at the Collier Inn on Useppa Island.) We tried several dresses and she finally settled on a gown named Lark by Ivy and Aster that I thought was to be the one. She was going to come back in on Tuesday to order it. Over the weekend though, she was online and found another Ivy and Aster dress that she thought she might like more. We asked to borrow it from the designer and they luckily could send it right down. She ordered the Ivy and Aster Anemone gown after a couple of hours of thought and deliberation.

We had only 10 weeks before the wedding. As everyone knows most companies lead time for orders are 4-6 months. Ivy and Aster could rush the order, and Rey was not phased by the short amount of time and even found the perfect bridesmaid dress to compliment her gown from Ivy and Aster. She ordered the Vela dress for her 3 girls as well.

As you can see from the pictures the right mix of casual and elegance was found for this fairytale wedding held on a quaint little street under the Banyans.

A customer came into the store today wanting "casual elegance". Simple, understated, whimsical, and flowy. I don't know if this last word actually exists in the real world, but it does in the bridal world. It means, a dress that will move with you, and around you, when you walk. It will blow in the wind, and look sexy, yet utterly uncontrived. I have attached a blog within a blog to help you understand what everyone is seeing in Ivy and Aster. This new wave of romance that is sweeping the country and the world. Ivy and Aster is more than fine gowns and dresses. For the bridal world, its a new kind of elegance.

Mother of the Bride

Because we are having a Mother of the Bride Trunk Show with Marisa Baratelli July 16th-August 20th, I thought it would be fun to talk a little about the Mother's role in all this wedding stuff=) Actually, if you must know I was asked to lend my knowledge of MOB's to one of Emily Post's etiquette books in 2007, Emily Post's Wedding Planner for Mom's. Here are some key points I would like to address from the book that are in my area of expertise.
1) Select the Mother's dress 6-9 months is advance. So many Mothers wait until the last minute!!
*The ordering process can sometimes take up to 4 months. You might end up having to pay Rush Charges if under this time frame.
*If you are the MOB you must give the MOG ample time to search for her ensemble.
*There are so many little details towards the end of the planning that having this big decision out of the way early can alleviate a lot of stress down the road.
2) Go with your daughter to shop for her gown, if at all possible, typically 9-12 months in advance.
*If she asks for your opinion, its fine to have a preference, but try not to be overly critical in your evaluations. *Try to limit the number of opinions by limiting the number of people she brings with her.
*By all means, let your daughter make the final decision on her gown.
*Be happy for her when she does finally decide.(Trust me on this, I have seen way too many tears and heartbreak in the dressing room when a Mother bashes the "Dream Dress".)
3) Get swatches!
*Swatches of the bride's dress, the bridesmaids, and your dress help out tremendously during the planning.
*For the Mom, the bridesmaid's color is important. You do not want to match it, but a variation of the color is fine. However, a complimentary color is the best bet. You stand out, but don't clash.
4) Don't try to out do your daughter!
*Wear something tasteful that makes you look amazing, but not revealing and outlandish. I know you are thinking that this is common sense, but I have seen it many times. They'll say that they don't want the "typical mother of the bride dress", and end up choosing something completely inappropriate. Showing too much cleavage or too much leg.
* Stay within the theme of the wedding, do not dress too formal or too informal.
*Look at your daughter's dress for guidance.
*Ask for your daughters opinion.
5) For your attire and your daughter's, a specialty store is the way to go=) The personalized attention is far superior, from alterations to accessories to helping you select the proper undergarments.

These are just some of my favorite highlights from the "Looking Your Best on the Big Day" section, however, the book does talk about more than just attire of course. I highly recommend Emily Post's Wedding Planner for Moms! (Look for my name, Lindy Bengston, in the Acknowledgements section of the Book=)

Reem Acra Debuts at Malindy Elene Bridal in St. Petersburg!

The Reem Acra debut trunk show was held last weekend at Malindy Elene Bridal and on behalf of our entire shop - we'd like to thank all of our brides and vendors for making the Reem Acra show such a success!

Reem Acra is an internationally recognized designer most notably known for her fine evening gowns and couture bridal designs. The designer, originally from Lebanon, studied design in both Paris and New York City. Reem Acra's signature use of embroidery and beadwork has made her one of the biggest names in the luxury bridal market.

Around here we're big Anne Barge fans. Anne and I grew up around the same small town in Georgia, and we've become good friends throughout the years. It's not just her that we love, though. Her dresses are amazingly unique!

Anne Barge is renowned around the world for her stunning bridal collections. Mixing classical tradition with modern style and flair, her attention to detail in beading, embroidery and use of top quality materials is second to none.

Kate Middleton Wedding Dress REVEALED!

The World has been waiting in excited anticipation to discover the designer of Kate Middleton's royal wedding dress, and now we wait no longer! We live and breathe weddings as a retail store for wedding dresses from some of the nation's hottest bridal designers, so we just couldn't wait to see which designer Kate had selected.

Kate's dress was designed by Sarah Burton, the creative director for the late Alexander McQueen

According to CBSnews.com, "Miss Middleton chose British brand Alexander McQueen for the beauty of its craftsmanship and its respect for traditional workmanship and the technical construction of clothing," the palace said in a statement. "Miss Middleton wished for her dress to combine tradition and modernity with the artistic vision that characterizes Alexander McQueen's work. Miss Middleton worked closely with Sarah Burton in formulating the design of her dress."

Kate Middleton's dress is made from ivory and white satin gazar, and the bodice and skirt feature hand-cut English lace and French Chantilly lace. The train measures almost nine feet long.

Grace Kelly

The second the dress was revealed, it reminded many of Grace Kelly's classic and beautiful wedding dress, designed by MGM's Academy Award–winning Helen Rose, it was worked on for six weeks by three dozen seamstresses. According to Designer Mark Badgley, "[Kate's gown] is the kind of gown that's going to stand the test of time."
We were so excited to hear the designer's opinion early this morning, as Badgley Mischka is a renowned and respected brand in the bridal industry!

Bridal Market in New York!

One of the best parts about being in the couture bridal industry is going to Bridal Market fashion shows! My two friends, Brittany and Tauyna and I headed to New York this past week for Bridal Market.

It's always hard for us to keep our cool around the amazing New York designer shops, but this trip was all business. Well, mostly. We arrived to the show just a little late but in style (white limo!) compliments of of Tauyna's sweet husband.

It always amazes me how couture bridal designers are always finding new ways to make a white dress unique. While the runway shows aren't quite as plentiful in April as October, it's still quite the sight to behold.

Holy sea of white...well, ivory and off-white, really. Couture bridal gowns seem to be trending away from white these days. Designers create and showcase collections twice a year.

Reem Acra's latest collection was just beautiful. According to Brides.com, the dress to the left by Reem Acra is very representative of the designer's travels: "This collection incorporates the flavor and attitudes I pick up when visiting these different countries and enjoying their different cultures."

A designer I was really excited to see for the first time at this show was Ines di Santo. I was looking forward to seeing her collection - because she's extremely popular and we're looking at putting her gowns in our shop. I especially loved this dress, an elegant two piece that integrates organza, laces, textures, and fashion in one beautiful gown.

Ann Barge is another designer that I just love. I always enjoy a chat with AB, as she grew up 30 minutes from my hometown of Tifton, Georgia. We have a very special bond.

Such exciting new collections to behold! I'm looking forward to featuring some of these new gowns at Malindy Elene Bridal soon!

We were honored to have Anne Barge of Anne Barge Bridal Atelier in Atlanta, GA here in our boutique for our last trunk show. Our brides genuinely did enjoy working with Anne individually to create their one of a kind wedding gowns. She is one of the most sought after, renowned designers today.

We will have another trunk show with her collection May 7th-8th, 2010. Hopefully we will see you for this magnificent event!

Congratulations to Barbie & her handsome groom Matt. We could not imagine a more perfect wedding locale than Kennebunkport, Maine.

Barbie was stunning in a gown designed by Melissa Sweet. Her veil was designed by Homa of Homa Bridal. Barbie further complemented her gown & veil with a gorgeous silk flower, in addition to earrings that were also designed by Homa.

Tampa Garden Club Bridal Show

We were honored to participate in the Tampa Garden Club's bridal show with several other renowned vendors throughout the Tampa Bay area. A special thank you to Sarah Fairbairn of One Fine Day Weddings & Events for making this magnificent event possible.

Another special thank you to the Delta Gamma's of the University of South Florida for modeling our wedding gowns. The girls were a great help.

Lastly, we want to thank Samara Anderson of Voila Events for assisting us with our set up, goodie bags, & marketing.

With the help of our seamstress, they came up with, & created the custom bridesmaid dresses for her girls. Stephanie & her bridesmaids were such a pleasure to work with throughout.

We recently learned that Stephanie & Ryan's wedding will be featured in the March issue of Brides Florida Magazine. This will be an issue worth looking out for.
